A few months ago, I presented a project which was made for the Croatian Cultural Association (Hrvatski sabor kulture), together with Bauer Studio. If you missed it, you can read it on this link, and also learn a bit about the Association, for better understanding of the subject.

This time I would like to present a project which was done a year earlier – the assignment was the same, but the concept was rather different. As I said, HSK is a non-governmental organization that covers amateur performing activities in the Republic of Croatia, promoting them through annual meetings and events. We wanted to show how their activities, which are often overshadowed and in a way, invisible, reflect their true passion, by emphasizing the shadow itself and making a visible reality a little less important. My job was to figure out the situation that simultaneously displays the ordinariness of everyday life, but at the same time offers the possibility of a different perception of the reality itself. This concept had to be applied through various art disciplines, such as drama, fine art, music, dance, literature…

Also, I had to find a visual language that corresponds to my requirements – it had to be clean and simple, in order to successfully demonstrate the simplicity and essence of the idea itself. I decided to draw geometrically stylized figures – I was already sketching them for some time, so it seemed like a good opportunity to actually put them to use.

scheme

Linear drawing – I almost left them this way. My initial vision often changes when I start working on something, but this time I had to keep my promise and make them colorful. It was important to make posters distinctive and appealing.

theatre-ensembles

Theatre Ensembles – Hamlet and a cat. There had to be a cat somewhere.

dance-ensembles

Dance Ensembles – I enjoyed drawing these girls. I heard some comments about the legs, but I love how they turned out.

wind-orchestras

Wind Orchestra – just guys sitting in a bar, drinking their soda.

literature

Literature – this one is particularly interesting, because it resembles the famous Croatian writer, Antun Gustav Matoš, whose statue sits on a bench on the Strossmayer promenade at Zagreb Upper Town .

tamburitza-orchestras-and-ensembles

Tamburitza Orchestra and Ensembles – people at a bus stop.

folklor-dance-ensembles

Folklor Dance Ensembles – a girl with an ice-cream and a yo-yo guy.

fine-art

Fine Art – it’s all about the detail – you can not fail to notice the similarity in the posture of the models.

Choirs – it took me a while to figure this one out. When in doubt, draw a bunch of hikers.

small-vocal-groups

Small Vocal Groups – it’s all about the team work :)

illustrations

I like how illustrations look when applied individually. Maybe I’ll draw some more.
