I was never a big fan of carnivals and costumes… till the last couple of years when I started molesting Vedran with my costume designs and ideas. Every year we have a themed dance party with our dancing friends, which is always a good opportunity for us to pull off something crazy and unexpected. This year we were both too occupied with lots of other stuff to even think about costumes, so the decision was delayed till the last minute. The truth is, this idea popped in my head while I was sleeping.

Remember Cousin Itt from The Addams Family? The hair dude? Well, it seemed perfect – Vedran could be Cousin Itt and I could be his lady girlfriend. So, we went to the store with knitting accessories and picked out some brown mohair wool – this was the closest thing we could find to something that would look like hair. This particular type of wool is kinda fluffy, so we could get a better coverage. This particular type of wool is kinda fluffy, so we could get a better coverage.

First we wrapped the threads around a wooden spline which was approximately my height.

Then we cut the threads on one side, and tied it on another, to get wool clusters, like on the picture below.

I don’t know why we thought that eight yarns would be enough for two costumes. Maybe because I initially said that two would be just enough. Anyway, when we made those eight clusters, Vedran went to get six more yarns (talking about wrong approximation). If you’re into numbers, let me just say that the costume was made from 14 yarns and 1300 threads a total length of about 2 kilometers. We dropped the idea of making two costumes, and Vedran decided to be the backwards man. It’s not really a character, but the scene from the mental movie “Freddie Got Fingered”.

Vedran sewed the suspending head frame and then stitched the wool all across it, so it can fall nicely and look fabulous.

There were only two things needed to complete the costume – the hat and the sunglasses. Cousin Itt usually wears a black bowler’s hat, but his lady obviously wears something more feminine, like, let’s say a pink hat with a big bow and cat eye sunglasses. Vedran’s mom gave me this hat a couple of years ago and I couldn’t think of a better way to use it.

Just sitting, drinking coffee and looking fabulous. These sessions were so much fun for me, and such a nightmare for Vedran. At the end of the day, he can blame only himself for making this costume so awesome.

Just enjoying the tulips friends brought me.

Hair. Hair everywhere. I left so much wool on other people’s clothes, and still waiting a hairball to pop out. But it was all worth it.
