Android (1982)

Movie Night

Another reason why Laser Discs are great – every now and then, browsing through the Internet wasteland, I find some SF movie I didn’t watch, like Android from 1982.

Who plays: Klaus Kinski and Don Keith Opper – the guy with a gap in his front teeth who plays a clumsy drunk in all Critters movies. What is all about: a space station in the middle of nowhere with two residents. One of them is Klaus Kinski, the mad scientist, the other one is Max, an android that after a while begins to gain awareness and interest for the opposite sex. We also follow a story about three escaped convicts, one of them is a female who, of course, shows her boobies during the movie.
In my assumption, it has been deliberately designed to draw attention from a bright yellow boom mic continuously intruding into the picture frame (working theory).
However, these prisoners suddenly appear at the station / research lab and hide their true identity. Here, things get a little complicated, but not too much. The doctor (Kinski) is working on a new female android who will replace Max, but since there are no results, his project gets shut down.

Now, how to activate an android… you need to sexually excite a female person in his presence. That part I studied twice, because if I ever decide to make an android, this is obviously a crucial thing. And so the plot develops, though not much, an android girl is activated and we see a lot. A couple of twists and the film ends, but impressions remain. Like in most of the cheap exploitation SF movies, they had a similar formula – to make a simple story (half-borrowed from some big budget movie), a few simple sets, show some boobies and that’s it. At some point I came to the conclusion that it could be a trash prequel of Blade Runner. And guess what, Android came just 4 moths later, with the similar idea of prohibited Androids, who hide from people so they wouldn’t deactivate them.

Anyway, Android Max at some point begins to fight for his desires, activates his android girl by getting a woman prisoner horny, and eventually they hit toward Earth.
Good low-budget movie, worth seeing.
